Thousands of travelers are now facing flight delays after crew members of German airline Lufthansa went on strike last Friday.
If an airline strike occurs, many travelers may be under the impression that their travel insurance policy will cover financial loss. In order to be eligible for coverage, the travel insurance policy and airline ticket must be purchased while a strike is completely unforeseen. If a traveler purchases travel insurance or airline tickets after a strike has become common knowledge, travel insurance will not provide coverage.
With the announcement of a strike by the Independent Flight Attendants Organisation on Friday, travelers that have booked flights with German airline Lufthansa will no longer be eligible for travel insurance coverage.
In order to avoid loss associated with airline strikes, it is advisable to research airlines before purchasing tickets.
