![]() Michelle S. (407) | Sunday October 14, 2012, 6:11 pm Bill & Lou have worked as draft animals on the school's farm for over 10 years. They've provided many services for the college, are mascots/friends to students past & present. Since Lou has an injury to his left rear hock both will be slaughtered! ACTION! These "beloved" oxen have been condemned to slaughter after ten years of hard work and service! Read their story below, immediately sign the petition, then pop off a fast email to the boneheads who are going to kill these beings after they've done nothing but toil and sacrifice their entire lives for humans! Please help and send a heartfelt, courteous email to the following people: Bill Throop Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs: throopw@greenmtn.edu Kenneth Mulder Farm Manager, Research Associate & Adjunct Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies: mulderk@greenmtn.edu THEY DESERVE TO BE SENT TO VINE SANCTUARY! ACT NOW AND SPREAD THE WORD OF THEIR PLIGHT! THEY LITERALLY HAVE DAYS LEFT! HOP ON IT! There is also a link at the bottom of the page for a Facebook petition....sorry, Facebook members only for that one. Make sure to sign and share the one below at the Care2 Petition site! POULTNEY, Vermont. - Oxen team Bill and Lou have been beloved hard workers at the Green Mountain College farm for 10 years. "They would plow and cultivate, and spread their manure and the manure of other animals," said Ben Dube, a research assistant. The oxen are part of the farm's plan to be fossil-free. Instead of tractors, Bill and Lou do the work. But this summer, Lou suffered an injury and can barely walk. And Bill can't pull the plow alone. "Doing any work with them is a question. Even putting them in the yoke and not pulling anything," Dube said. The school already bought replacements, but kept Bill and Lou as pets until they could collaborate with the students, who were on summer break, about Bill and Lou's fate. "Because it is an educational, sustainable farm, we think we've got to help students understand how to make farms work ecologically, socially and economically," said Bill Throop, the provost at Green Mountain College.
http://www.wcax.com/story/19782348/gmc-oxen-pair-headed-to-slaughterhouse VINE Sanctuary is ready to take these animals in for a peaceful life after all their contribution to their human owners. And despite many voices from around the world calling for the release of Bill and Lou to the sanctuary, the college authorities have remained determined to send the two retiring oxen to slaughter.

I hope they change their minds... Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Please try again later. ? |

![]() Constance F. (211) | Sunday October 14, 2012, 7:52 pm Thank you for posting. Petition previously signed. emails sent from home. A win-win situation for not only the Oxen, but the faculty and students who care about the oxen, and the reputation of the college, the public outcry at large - would be to make the simple choice to send them to sanctuary. Everyone wins ! But apparently, the heads don't see it that way. This is more than just having "meat" for a month. This is about driving home their perspective that animals are merely utilitarian. I can only hope that they will wish to protect their reputations, because that is the most they can feel. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. ![]() Alison Baker (9) | Monday October 15, 2012, 1:17 am Colleges & universities have the ridiculous practice of live mascots.
