England's golf hopes pinned on Georgia Hall

Georgia Hall, the talk of golf as Europe?s No 1 amateur at the age of 17, is about to pitch up in the North

Georgia Hall, the talk of golf as Europe?s No 1 amateur at the age of 17, is about to pitch up in the North.

She?s in the England side for next week?s European Ladies Team Championship at the Fulford club in York.

It?s the first time the event has been staged in this country for 22 years.

And it?s 20 years since England won, with Sweden going for a hat-trick of victories.

There are 20 nations fielding six-woman teams and Hall, the British Amateur and British? Girls champion, is? the world No?? 7.

The England coach is Steve Robinson from another York club, Sandburn Hall.

He?s the right guy to ask why the Dorset lass has made such staggering progress.

?Hard work,? he said.

?Sure, she is sporty and athletic and has got talent.

?But success in golf is five per cent talent and 95% hard work and Georgia works hard and works smart.

?She is utterly dedicated to her sport, she has a fantastic?? attitude and she?s a great team player ? a pleasure to work with.?

Other exciting prospects in the England team are Cheshire?s Bronte Law, 18, a Curtis Cup winner, and Bucks girl? Laura Taylor who two years ago, at 16, became the youngest ever British Amateur champion.

Play runs from Tuesday to Saturday, spectators get in free and all you need to know can be found via? the? home page of englandgolf.org

Fulford? is where stars like Tony Jacklin, Lee Trevino, Greg Norman and Sandy Lyle strutted their stuff during a 23-year run of European Tour events at the club in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
